Saharan "Land of Terror" Revealed

White salt flats seem to melt over dark sandstone hills in the Tanezrouft Basin, as seen in a picture released in October by the European Space Agency.

In partnership with the ESA, Japan's Advanced Land Observing Satellite captured this image in June with an instrument that charts land cover and vegetation in visible and near-infrared light.

The Tanezrouft Basin, in south-central
Algeria, is one of the most desolate parts of the Sahara, and is sometimes called the land of terror. The bouquet of yellow seen in the upper right is Erg Mehedjibat, a small cluster of star-shaped sand dunes that grow upward rather than side to side.

Remember, there are more important things in this world than expensive shoes, clothes, and golfing while on vacation in Hawaii!

Yesterday, in the world of Islam...

...came these images of the celebration of Ashura.

The Day of Ashura (عاشوراء (ʻĀshūrā’, Ashura, Ashoura, and other spellings) is on the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar and marks the climax of the Remembrance of Muharram.

It is commemorated by Shia Muslims as a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad at the Battle of Karbala on 10 Muharram in the year 61 AH (October 10, 680 AD[1]).

Ah, the religion of peace...

...or is it pieces?

"Failed miserably"

Janet, dearie, your explanation doesn't hold much water! What a disgusting display!

And still no statement from "the duffer"!

Clueless Napolitano Now Concedes System 'Failed Miserably'

It took a tough question from Matt Lauer, but after having laughably claimed that "the system worked," DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano has now conceded the obvious: that the security system that permitted Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to board NWA 253 with explosives "failed miserably."

On Today and in other interviews this morning, Napolitano attempted to use her own ignorance as a shield. Each time she was hit with a hard question, her response was to the effect "yeah, we're wondering about that ourselves." She also continued to point the finger back at George Bush, repeatedly mentioning that the security procedures in place were formulated under the Bush administration.

Whatever happened to "change you can believe in"?

It all boils down to...

...Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce is indebted to me, and its president, Bill Morton, is personally indebted to me...and seems to not want to repay me.

I call that a severe ethics situation in Rogers Park. Wouldn't you?

Thursday, December 24, 2009

The Word file I wanted to convey is corrupt. Fortunately, I saved this:

Bill Morton to me
show details 11:09 PM (41 minutes ago)

Be happy I have a check for you tonight.

Had it all night long.
Come over and get it, or would you rather bitch about being a victim for the rest of your life?!

This is the president of Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce speaking.

Just so you know, I am not bitching. I merely want repayment of 'seeding' money post haste.

I have been e-mailed by the current 'interim Treasurer', James Wilkowski, that I will not be repaid in full untill December 2010.

A YEAR from now, with NO interest!

This Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce is a joke, folks. Bill Morton is ne'er-do-well who lies and grifts. I am certain his divorced parents are very proud.

I lied...

George is gone.

Sorcery Charges On The Rise In Saudi Arabia
Wednesday, December 23, 2009
Exciting news from the Islamic paradise of Saudi Arabia.

(NPR) A Lebanese man who hosted a popular TV show where he gave callers advice and sometimes predicted the future was sentenced to death by a court in Saudi Arabia last month.

His charge? Sorcery.

Ali Hussain Sibat's popular call-in show was broadcast on a satellite TV channel in Arabic around the Middle East from Beirut. In May 2008, Sibat traveled to Saudi Arabia on a pilgrimage to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. His lawyer, May al-Khansa, says Saudi religious police recognized Sibat from his TV work and arrested him."They took him to prison,"

Khansa says, "and after that they took him to the court many times, asking him, you have to say that you have done something against religion, and after that we will release you and take you to your country.

Not An Isolated Case

Human rights groups say such cases are on the rise in the strictly religious country. Saudi officials have arrested Saudis and non-Saudis, Muslims and non-Muslims on sorcery charges.

Yes, Obama promised change, and suckered in more than half of America with that false promise.

You thought he would be FOR you, and now you find he is AGAINST you. More and more taxes. And, if you don't have med insurance, well, I guess you are just going to go to jail.

How's your vote for Obama workin' out for you, eh, Bill?

All the Make-up in the World Cannot Cover...

..an illness.

May I ask, right now, where are the results of the physical exam of this presdent? I, for one, would really like to know his 'health status'. Wouldn't you?

Fergeddaboud da Pieces Prize, eh. Dis guy is out to be da dictator--of America, yet.

Please try not to excuse his sorry A$$; he does not know what he his doing, except when he is told by George Soros.

He is:

too OLD to do things, and yet, he does.

He looks tired already; he should be impeached.

His wife, who is complicit in all these affairs, remains unproud of her country--we have not yet heard opposite--and shall we assume she remains not proud at all?

Circumstances prove it.

Gone, and not at all appreciated

These webpages are now destroyed, though they were totally approved by Bill Morton..

I resigned from Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 14, 2009, because the Chamber seemed to no longer have a proper ethic.

We had voted on a new membership structure 24OCT2009, and two weeks later I was informed that , apparently, that vote did not matter, as a membership had been sold at the previous higher monetarial structure, and the president of the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce, thought this was an OK way to go.

I resigned.

However, I am the 'seeder' of this Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce--I provided the monies to incorporate, to become a member of the US Chamber of Commerce, pretty much to do everything, as I was the Secretary/Treasurer. I have since been replaced by 'interim' board members.

I have asked for a repayment schedule, but that request seems to be in avoidance at this point.

I am making this public because Bill Morton has avoided me for the past two months. He has not answered an e-mail I sent, nor has his board member, James Alan Wilkowski, communicated with me since the 8th of December.

We are talking thousands of dollars owed here, and these Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce board members seem to be trying very hard to dodge paying me back for my investment, which Mr. Wilkowski had the gall, in in e-mail, to call a 'donation'.

The result?

On Monday, I shall go downtown and contact a lawyer specializing in collections.

Perhaps then, Bill Morton will understand that I am serious about this situation?

P.S. Bill, I can garhishee your wages for an indefinite amount of time.

Just in case...

..you haven't a card. Print out one of these.

These are my designs, but you are totally welcome to them.
Just me, doing what I have to do, unlike Obama, doing what he THINKS he should do!

In the olden days (the time of Lyndon and Jimmy) we would have called Obama a FRAUD. And that he is, friends.

Please feel free to copy and print.

Though they are my own creations, I refuse to copyright. So, Barry, come after me. I would welcome that!

Snow White

Still dreaming of a 'White Christmas'?

And here are three photos from my window, which overlooks George's Christmas Tree Lot on Sheridan Road here in Rogers Park.

The snow got heavier, and I could barely see George's festive lights.

It snowed quickly, sticking to tree branches and sidewalks, making for a very pretty winter scene.

By the way, George will be at the lot through tomorrow evening, and his trees are top quality. Why not stop by?

'Tis the Season of Giving...

...all of Chicago drivers the shaft!

First, Santa Dick'em gave us these:

Now, this:

City Parking Meter Rates Going Up

Chicago - Mixed news for Chicago's parking meters.

A new "portable time" system means if you have time left on your receipt, you can use it anywhere that charges the same rate.

Plus spots near schools and hospitals will allow for more than two hours of parking.

And if you get a ticket at a broken meter it'll get tossed out.

However, rates go up in just 9 days.

The top rate will go from $3.50 an hour to $4.25.

Merry Holidays

(and enforced furlough days)

from Dick'em Daley to all!

X-mas marks the spot!

Merry Christmas, Barry!

What does he say now?

Shortly after his inauguration, Barry made the following statement about "flinty Chicago toughness". I wonder if he felt the same as AFO flew him back from his failure in Copenhagen.

Late January, 2009

Washington, D.C.—Republicans in Congress are blasting President Obama for recent comments he made regarding his incredulity at the inability of Washingtonians to deal with snow and ice. His attitude is being billed as elitist and anathema to the consensus-driven agenda that Obama is pushing.

After snow and ice lightly covered Washington, D.C. and its environs on Tuesday, (late January, 2009) the president wondered aloud, “Aren’t you a little surprised that they canceled school for my kids?” He continued: “Because of what? Some ice? . . . We’re going to have to apply some flinty Chicago toughness to this town.”

The Ultimate Washington Cover-Up: Snow!

Bob Schieffer Says What Every Child Knows: Peace and Contentment Can Be Found in a Blizzard

December 2009

Washington woke up a different place yesterday. No, I don't mean elected officials suddenly put aside partisan games.

No, Washington was - depending on how you look at it - the victim OF, or blessed BY, the ultimate cover-up.

We were covered up by a huge snow!

From the Capitol, where the Senate was locked in nasty debate, to the White House, Washington was transformed into a Winter Wonderland.

That's the thing about snow: The cliches come tumbling down with the first flakes. We can't help ourselves.

But even the torrent of words and descriptions we're heard a million times before can't beat the scenes that a snowfall paints.

There's an old Washington truth (another cliche to be sure) that where we stand depends on where we sit. A snow just underlines that.

Adults dread snow because it means school closings, snow drifts, detours and blocked sidewalks.

Children on the other hand love snow for exactly the same reasons - school closings, snow drifts, detours and blocked sidewalks.

Is that then a thought for the holiday season? That when we allow the inconveniences of modern life to overwhelm us, we miss what every child knows but can't really explain: that a change in the weather - the first snow, a sign of spring, a summer sunset - can make us smile and helps us to find peace and contentment.

Are there miracles?

I believe snow can be a miracle, but only if we allow it to be.
