Hey, Mayor Daley!

This is how they take care of it in Kenya!

Perhaps if the guns collected every year were MELTED DOWN...

...oh, never mind. Daley doesn't give a rat's bum anyway, because there's no money in it for him!

No one knows for sure...

From Astronomy Picture of the Day:

What shapes the remarkable dust tapestry of the nearby Milky Way Galaxy?

No one knows for sure.

The intricate structures, shown above, were resolved in new detail recently in a wide region of the sky imaged in far infrared light by the European Space Agency's Planck satellite.

The above image is a digital fusion of three infrared colors: two taken at high resolution by Planck, while the other is an older image taken by the now defunct IRAS satellite.

At these colors, the sky is dominated by the faint glow of very cold gas within only 500 light years of Earth.

In the above image, red corresponds to temperatures as cold as 10 degrees Kelvin above absolute zero, while white corresponds to gas as warm at 40 Kelvins.

The pink band across the lower part of the image is warm gas confined to the plane of our Galaxy.

The bright regions typically hold dense molecular clouds that are slowly collapsing to form stars, whereas the dimmer regions are most usually diffuse interstellar gas and dust known as cirrus.

Why these regions have intricate filamentary shapes shared on both large and small scales remains a topic of research.

Future study of the origin and evolution of dust may help in the understanding the recent history of our Galaxy as well as how planetary systems such as our Solar System came to be born.

The Census and Daley the Anarchist

Shown here is the 2010 US Census form which you received in the mail this past week.

Note the bright red arrow pointing to the highlighted area. Click to enlarge.

"Do not count anyone living away either at college or in the Armed Forces"

Pretty straightforward, isn't it?

This is one of the long-standing rules of the census, and guess who is telling you to break that rule, that law?

Why, da Mare, Dopey Dick'em Daley, of course!

Daley wants Chicago college students who study out of town counted as city residents on Census

Mayor Richard M. Daley wants Chicagoans to count their out-of-town college student children on their household U.S. Census forms, even though a local Census official said those students should be counted at their colleges.

The difference of opinion between the two officials drew laughter from a crowd of seniors at the Abbot Park Senior Services Center on the South Side today, where officials were encouraging Chicagoans to fill out census forms.

In response to audience questions, Stanley D. Moore, regional director of the Chicago Regional Office for the U.S. Census Bureau, said the law requires that students be counted at their colleges.

“The law says that if they’re in school, we count them where they live on April 1, 2010,” Moore said.

But Daley said the students are coming home for spring break and should be counted here April 1, so Chicago can take advantage of the government money that results from more people being counted.

“If your son or daughter is living in your home five months a year almost or more than that, they’re home for Christmas, they’re home for Easter break. . . they’re home for June, July, August and September. . . it’s simple as that,” Daley told reporters after the event.

*********

Not only is he dopey, he's GREEDY! He is an elected 'servant of the people' telling the people to break the law!

It's time for him to resign--period!

Be a Clown, be a Clown...

If you are going to dress like a clown...

FCOTUS
(First Clown of the United States)

...at least do it PROPERLY, like this!

Er...um...Welcome to Spring in Chicago!

Below is my view to the northeast this morning, the official First Day of Spring--HAH!

On a good day, I can see the Evanston downtown hi-rise area, and even the Bahai Temple in Wilmette. The lake is about a half block east, but I won't be taking a walk along it today as the winds are off the lake at almost 20mph, with some window-rattling gusts.

Here's a shot from the lower half of the window. See, it's also snowing, and blowing off the lake!

Well, Merry Spring, everyone...hope it's nicer where you live?

Our troops need your support, physically AND spritually!

On this last day (finally!) of winter...

...here's a preview of Spring!

Crocus and emerging tulip leaves at the Emil Bach house (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright) at 7415 N. Sheridan Road

Crocus and daffodils in the 1400 block of W. Fargo Avenue (yep, right across the street from Ald. Joe Moore's house!)

"Chalk families" on the sidewalk of the 1500 block of W. Fargo Avenue

Chalk drawings and crocus are sure signs of Spring, aren't they?

It's supposed to SNOW tomorrow!
